We picked Evan up at 1:30 Tuesday and first stops were
at the Sandhills Coalition Resale Shops and Emmanuel
Episcople Thrift Shop. He found some cool items at both.
Then to our house, where after a light snack, he joined Judy to
create a banana pudding for our dinner dessert (and to take home).
I always tell Judy cooking is a lot like science. She
doesn't especially like to think about that -- too much
like school. Evan is happy to delve into both. One of
his purchases was a Forensic Science Investigative Kit.
Here's Evan the Investigator about to solve his first case.
May I present our version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.
Aren't you glad he's on OUR side?!
He loves RISK so much, we gave him his own game
for Christmas. This was the first time Judy and I got to
play it with him since then, though his family has.
He mopped up with us in one of the most dramatic
finishes we've ever seen. Judy was within two countries
of wiping me out and collecting my set worth 30 armies.
She came up short, setting up Evan to wipe me out with
his OWN set. He then collected mine and proceeded to
wipe out Judy. What a game!
He proved to be a benevolent dictator and permitted
us to take him to Granny's doughnuts for breakfast.
He's the man behind the mask.
If it weren't for the grandchildren, I supposed Judy
and I would have to come up with another excuse to
visit Granny's from time to time.
Mild weather allowed us plenty of time outside, as
well. We threw Frisbees and played our own version
of RollaBat, using ghosts as baserunners. All three of
us had turns as batters and fielders. The bumps in our
yard meant you were never certain to hit the bat. (Ask
me for our rules)
Evan helped Judy prepare spaghetti for our Tuesday dinner.
But he also had time to do a little outdoor cooking and some
Kirby Castle Construction in the sand pile. We played lots of
other games indoors as well and popped over to visit his
Granny and Granddaddy (who are actually his greats).
After a delicious meal at Pizza Cafe', including all
the dessert pizza he wanted, we reluctantly delivered
Evan home at precisely 1:30 on Wednesday. Claire
and Ryan were so thrilled to see him. Especially the
banana pudding AND a mysterious bag with thousands
of buttons that he got at the coalition. His plan is to build
a robot. Word is, all three of them have button projects in
the works at this moment. Can't wait to see!
We'll be scanning our calendars trying to arrange the
next Kirby Kid sleepovers before school starts back.
Grandma and I need something to keep us busy!
