Back to School Special

I've been retired for five years now, but
I still connect Labor Day to the 49 years I
started school about this time.  In Moore County
schools started back two weeks ago.  I haven't
yet been back on campus at Farm Life, but I've
got lots of plans for that.
The  one school-related activity I have done was
at Beulah Hill Baptist Church's Back to School Day.
I really enjoyed sharing Bible stories and fun games.
Here's a sampling of what we did.

The Bouncy House is always a favorite.

But I think the Dunking Booth rated # 1 this year.

My friend Steve was there to see all the action,
dressed in style as always.

Jesse (J.J.) was the first to try out my made-up game
"Man Overboard."  The object is to fling the stuffed
sweat pants high in the air and catch them before
they hit the ground.

Looks like these parachutists need to rearrange.

Older kids were more adept at "Man Overboard."
But sometimes they just let him go "splat."

Cornhole was a blast.  Bean bags are safer than
some things, too.

In Renee's game, "Islands," players had to race to
frisbees of various colors or numbers according
to what Renee called out.  For example: Move to
a green frisbee between 6 and 12.  And players are
not allowed to touch each other.  That's the hard part.

Everyone has had Donna for a teacher before-- she's
been faithfully doing that forever.

Kellie was the brains of this whole operation and
everyone was glad to pitch in to make it a success.

Johnny did a great job keeping the kids tuned in to
his Bible story with the Dunking Booth just out of reach.

Pre-schoolers love parachutes, too.
Glad there were a few extra helpers around!

The boys of summer.  All pretty skillful at cornhole.

Break time!  These guys have to replenish
all those calories they just burned.

Most of these doughnut holes would get eaten, and
the few that survived were added to the dessert table
at the hot dog lunch later on.
At 11:00 kids and helpers joined the rest of the
church for worship.  The congregation joined in on
some favorite choruses like Jesus Loves Me, Jesus
Loves the Little Children, Jesus in the Morning, Do
Lord, and He's Got the Whole World in His Hands.
They sounded great!
Then kids up to fifth grade were dismissed for
Children's Church.

The promised hot dog lunch followed and the
outdoor games soon resumed.

Sidewalk chalk art was popular.
Tim took the afternoon shift at the Dunking
Booth.  I wonder how many times he had to
make that long climb.

Fire away, Steve.  As winner of countless
trophies and medals in athletics, Steve is a
force to be reckoned with.  Hang on, Tim!

And with one more good dunk we'll
wrap things up.

So school is back in and a lot of wonderful,
even life-changing activities are taking place.
Please keep the teachers, children, and families
in your prayers.
