Christmas in Southern Pines, Part One

Christmas 2012 really got rolling with our
Christmas Day family gathering at Judy's
parents' home in Southern Pines.

Granny shows Bri and Hunter her animated Santa.

Hunter has to go back alone later for another peek.
Is that a real fire in that stove?

While we wait for the cousins-- and food and presents--
Hunter tries to prove that his wrestler won't fit in the car.

Oh, joy!  Claire and Evan are here, everyone!

Who's ready for presents?  I am, I am!

The present that captures Claire's interest is that
small one in a Batman bag.  She notes, "It's taped."

These cousins just love any opportunity to get together.

Evan terrorizes us all with old monsters while we
wait to open new toys. What an intimidating growl!

Granny's tree abounds with delights for
all the little ones.

Time is marching on.  But we must eat before
we open presents.  A technicality.

Claire and Evan like the privacy their hula hoops offer.

Once again, their special table makes the kids feel
all grown up.  Okay, let's bless this food-- hey--
there's no food!

While we await a scrumptious holiday meal, the girls
chat, Hunter practices feng shui  on his silverware.

They say Christmas is for children, and in some aspects
that's true.  But Granny, Granddaddy, and Aunt Elsie
love the joy of watching the children's exuberance.

Yes, this is great, but I see dessert over there!

Jessie and Emma with UNCle Mike.
They're not the little ones any more!

All four children examine some of Granny's cool
playthings, mostly accumulated during Emma and
Jessie's early years.

The girls even get into Lincoln Logs.  I guess I'll
be pulling out my yard sale collection.

Hunter hauls out a school bus and ABC game. That
"Michael Jordan" tongue look shows his intense thought.

Claire is very expressive with the Magna Doodle.
If we'd known how popular the old toys would be
maybe Santa Claus wouldn't have needed to come.
Perish the thought!

All these kids love climbing, so the boys are
delighted with the bannister.

The higher, the better.

Of course I'm ready for the presents.
Don't be silly!

Let's pile on Amanda!

Okay, Santa's elf is ready to start delivering.

No one could be more meticulous about getting every
scrap of paper in the trash bag.  Hunter is Mr. Cleanup.

Claire's mystery package is finally revealed, and
boy, is it a winner!

The rest of the party pictures will follow
in a companion blog right away!
