Claire's Big Day

I know that all the talk has been about July 4, Independence Day. But two days before that, Claire celebrated her 1st birthday in style. Hot dogs with all the fixin's and cake, of course. (Don't miss the two party videos at the end)

Proud great grandparents gather for this special event. (Note: the smaller pictures in this blog were unabashedly stolen from Ron's FB page-- thanks Ron).

Another great grand takes a turn at corralling this wild birthday baby. . .
So she won't start opening these prematurely. Oh, the temptation!

Brianna was there in her party suit (birthday suit underneath). She's the voice of experience.
"Take my word for it, Claire, you're the star attraction today-- milk it like crazy!"

Claire entertains herself any way she can until either the food or the gifts can be accessed.

"Hey, don't worry about me-- I've still got some pretty cool older toys. But new ones will be good."
Claire warms up with blueberries for appetizers. Ever notice that each one has a unique flavor?
Forget pictures of big people eating hot dogs. How about Claire eating a bite of her very first birthday cake?!
Now we all know why we're really here. Birthdays are all about food, folks, and TOYS!

Cousins Riley and Brianna are very willing to help open presents. And try them out. And take them home if they're not suitable for Claire.

Since Claire began walking fairly proficiently a few days prior to turning one, she now qualifies to take other babies around in her new stroller. Thanks a million, Granny!
Her favorite gear is FAST!

Good gifts come in small packages. But GREAT gifts come in GIANT BOXES! What can it be?

It's her very own ball pit. Without having to go to Mickey D's.

Brianna has checked it out and it's safe to come in.

The rooftop spyhole is perfect for watching babies in action. Or rescuing a baby drowning in balls.

Riley says, "Hmm. . . . Identical twins. If I name them, how will I tell them apart?"

After we had gone home, Ron snapped a couple of other classic poses in the ball pit.

Some other great pictures are on Amanda's blog and Ron Kirby's Facebook page. I'll be surprised if you see any pictures from Jennifer-- she and Matt left that to the rest of us. They had enough to do orchestrating this superfun birthday bash. Plus, the very next day, Claire swooped her lovely and loving parents off to the beach. Her way of saying, "Thanks for a great first year and a wonderful party, Mommy and Daddy."
A video for the archives: Claire demonstrates her new "walk."

They are both so cute. Looks like Claire enjoyed her day.
