Mountaintop Mother's Day

For our family, heading out to a crowded restaurant for Mother's Day lunch wasn't so appealing. So instead, we packed up for the one hour drive up to one of our favorite haunts--Morrow Mountain State Park. I've blogged before about some of our trips up there. In the course of these pictures you'll find out who came along with us.

We didn't realize that we'd be joining a newly hatched brood of ladybugs. Renee spotted them (no, actually they didn't have their spots yet) between the boards of one of our tables. They didn't seem to mind us sitting there.

Now, as far as humans, Emma and Jessie selected a quiet spot to set up on the ground.

The adults preferred tables, which were soon spread with chicken, hot wings, potatoes, coleslaw, and biscuits, courtesy of the Colonel. And coconut cake, courtesy of Emma and Renee!

Tim and Renee had claimed the best picnic spot on the mountaintop while they waited for the rest of us to arrive with the KFC. Two tables with shade!

Matt, Jennifer, and Emma. Emma plays with Jennifer's hair--most relaxing!

Judy with Emma and Jessie (aunts always go on picnics, you know).

And Uncle Ken always appears where the food is.

Granny and Grandaddy or Jack and Thelma, depending on your perspective.
Everybody wants their pictures with Emma and Jessie!

Lake Tillery was absolutely gorgeous on Mother's Day.

There were lots of canoeists and kayakers. We saw one girl jump in for a swim, but for most the water was a little too chilly.

I guess the water's never too chilly for these ducks. We saw them along the shore as we hiked the Three Rivers Trail after lunch.

These folks found some very shallow waters to park their pontoon boats. The cold water didn't seem to bother them, either.

Morrow Mountain is always a place where you can spot novelty cars, souped up sports cars, and a variety of motorcycles.

Our group follows the movements of a turtle and some small fish.

The light and shadows mingle in interesting ways.

These shadowy figures are still observing water life. Can you guess who any of them are?

Judy, Jack, and Thelma contemplate how much fun it would be to have a speedboat, or at least a jet ski.

Jack decides he'd settle for the Chevy pickup.

Our newest Mom and Dad, Amanda and Stephen, didn't join us for all this. Instead they celebrated by taking Brianna to church for the very first time, then spending a quiet afternoon at home. Follow the link to The Talbert Report on this page to find out what else is going on around their house. It's very exciting these days! Also, at Amanda's blog, you'll find a link to her brand new RECIPE BLOG. Believe me, Amanda will offer some great recipes!
I hope all you mothers out there had a very special day with the people you love best.
